TrueNAS Expands Open Storage Portfolio with TrueNAS R-Series and TrueNAS SCALE Software
The TrueNAS Open Storage portfolio is growing! Introducing the TrueNAS R-Series storage systems and the TrueNAS SCALE Open Source HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI) software. These additions bring even more versatility, performance, and cost saving benefits to the already impressive TrueNAS lineup.
Combining the strengths of purpose-built storage systems with the flexibility of TrueNAS, the R-Series offers four models designed for maximum density, performance, and Open Storage capabilities. And for those looking for a hyperconverged solution, TrueNAS SCALE is the perfect fit. Built on scale-out OpenZFS, it offers the optimal hyperconvergence experience.
The R-Series also offers three software editions to cater to individual needs:
- TrueNAS CORE: The Community edition, formerly known as FreeNAS, provides free and open source File, Block, Object, and Application storage.
- TrueNAS Enterprise: For those in need of Enterprise-grade support, security, Fibre Channel, and integrations, this edition has you covered.
- TrueNAS SCALE: The latest hypconverged edition, it combines scale-out ZFS, KVM, and Kubernetes for the ultimate HCI solution.
Unlike proprietary alternatives, the R-Series delivers on all fronts – from storage economics and performance, to deployment flexibility and storage density. Each model boasts Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs and can be configured for up to 100 Gb/s of storage performance.
Here’s a closer look at the models and their capabilities:
- TrueNAS R50: High capacity 4U with 48 x 3.5″ & 4 x 2.5″ NVMe Bay, and up to 890 TB capacity. The R50 can also scale-up to 3PB and then scale-out to 300PB.
- TrueNAS R40: High density 2U all-flash system with 48 x 2.5″ Bays, and up to 360 TB of flash capacity.
- TrueNAS R20: Power efficient 2U with 12 x 3.5″ and 2 x 2.5″ Bays and up to 230 TB capacity.
- TrueNAS R10: Compact 1U all-flash system with 16 x 2.5″ Bays and up to 120 TB of flash capacity.
But that’s not all – iXsystems is also proud to announce the first release of TrueNAS SCALE. This HCI platform combines computational power with scale-out Open ZFS storage. It’s available as open source software built atop Debian Linux, or as an appliance-based solution that can be paired with purpose-built systems such as the X-Series, M-Series, or the new R-Series. Pricing for the R-Series starts at under $4,000 and increases with processing and storage capacity. With TrueNAS SCALE software included, all-flash system prices are less than $300/TB.
