Ayaz Sadiq Urges For Stronger Parliamentary Ties With Uganda, Bangladesh
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Sep, 2026) Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq held separate meetings with the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda, Jacob Marksons Oboth, and Deputy Speaker of House of the Nation of Bangladesh, Barrister Kayser Kamal, on the sidelines of the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. They discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral and parliamentary relations.
Meeting with the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda
During his meeting with Oboth, Ayaz Sadiq welcomed his Ugandan counterpart and recalled their longstanding friendship. He also remembered the support provided by former Ugandan Speaker, Madame Rebecca Kadaga, in Pakistan's successful bid for the Presidency of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) in 2015.
Sadiq emphasized Pakistan's commitment to renewing and strengthening friendships with African nations, stating that it is time to deepen Afro-Pak relations. He invited Oboth to lead a parliamentary delegation to Pakistan.
The Speaker also informed him about the existing Pak-Uganda Parliamentary Friendship Group in the National Assembly and expressed hope for a similar group in Uganda. Oboth shared that a Friendship Group had already been established in his parliament and provided a copy of his letter dated September 9, 2026.
Both sides identified potential cooperation areas including:
- Higher education
- Agriculture
- Food security
- Defence
- Climate change
- Parliamentary innovation
Sadiq highlighted Pakistan's challenges with climate change and the potential for mutual cooperation on issues of shared concern. He discussed regional security tensions with India, advocating for peaceful dispute resolution, and emphasized Pakistan's experience in counter-terrorism.
He also invited Uganda to participate in the upcoming CPA Women Parliamentarians' conference hosted by the KP Assembly Branch in March next year.
Meeting with Deputy Speaker of House of the Nation, Bangladesh
Later, Ayaz Sadiq met with Barrister Kayser Kamal and welcomed the Bangladeshi delegation. He offered Fateha for the spouse of the Bangladeshi Speaker who had recently passed away.
Sadiq recalled his visit to Dhaka for the funeral of Begum Khaleda Zia and referenced their previous meeting.
